Augmentation is key to productive work. Every software engineer needs this in order to automate the mundane while having more time to stay focused on architecture and deep, thoughtful, exploration of new ways to solve hard problems. A few examples of the many aids used by this collective are:
- Code Quality: First and foremost, always use tools for local development and continuous integration that ensure the quality of your code remains high and consistent.
- Tools: Good tools allow you to grow multiple digital arms, so-to-speak, in which to accomplish a lot with little. Good examples are Kagi for private search and agent brainstorming; Pennyworth for keyboard macros, text snippets, and quick automations; and Obsidian for second brain capture of long term knowledge.
- Machine Upkeep: An up-to-date and clean work environment is critical to staying on top of the rapidly changing software engineering landscape. Proactive rigor is key to not falling behind or being blindsided by major changes.
